The FT/Citi Ingenuity Awards
Urban Ideas in Action program, supported by Citi, will recognise ingenious individuals who have developed solutions to urban challenges. Urban Ideas in Action are open to applicants from anywhere in the world who have put into practice an ingenious idea in an urban context. The Award is specifically looking for examples of ingenious ideas in action in four specific sectors, all in the urban context: Education, Energy, Healthcare and Infrastructure.

IEDC - Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) Certification
The CEcD test is intended to unite the field of economic development and establish a baseline of what is considered the core body of knowledge for economic developers. Training courses to obtain your Certification and be recertified will be available at the upcoming IEDC Leadership Summit and and other locations.

OEDA extends best wishes and a special thanks to Jeff Deiss and Dan Streng who are both leaving the USDA after 28 years of service. OEDA has been fortunate to partner with both Jeff and Dan over the years and we extend our appreciation for their many contributions as well as their ongoing partnership and support of OEDA and its events.
Jeff Deiss has served as the Oregon Business Program Director for the USDA for 28 years and has served for nearly 7 years with RD-Oregon. He will be joining the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of International Trade in Portland, Oregon, starting on December 19, where he will be responsible for administering SBA’s export assistance loan guarantees and other programs for Oregon, Idaho and Montana.
Dan Streng, long-time B&I Loan Specialist, will begin enjoying a much-deserved retirement on December 3, 2011 after a 28-year distinguished career with USDA.
We wish both Jeff and Dan all the best in their new endeavors!

RARE - Resource Assistance for Rural Environments
Do you have community building, natural resource, or planning projects that you do not have resources to complete?
The Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE) Program might be your solution.
The mission of the RARE Program is to increase the capacity of rural communities to improve their economic, social, and environmental conditions, through the assistance of trained graduate-level participants, from across the US, who live in and serve the communities for 11 months. RARE participants assist communities in the development and implementation of projects for achieving a sustainable natural resource base and improving rural economic conditions.
The RARE program is now in its 17th year, over the years it placed more than 300 volunteers and served nearly every Oregon county. [more]
