Visioning & Strategic Planning for downtown and Waterfront Development
Like many Northwest cities with strong ties to natural resource industries, Astoria has weathered tough economic times. The city’s leaders were able to reverse the city's decline by focusing on key assets like the riverfront, concentrating on opportunities instead of obstacles and remaining optimistic and most importantly patient. As the city invested in public amenities like the 5-mile Riverwalk, the private sector responded with projects including Mill Pond Village brownfield redevelopment, the Liberty Theater and Hotel Elliott restorations and the Cannery Pier Hotel. Presenters will discuss how the community identified where it wanted to go, and how it is getting there.

Paul Benoit, City Manager, Astoria
